Reserve or National Guard Service

NSS graduate students with prior military service should seriously consider affiliating with the reserves or guard. This not only offers opportunities for professional growth and development, but also opens up a network of contacts that might lead to professional employment. In addition, some reserve and guard billets confer security clearances. Applications to federal service who already have clearances can dramatically reduce the waiting time for their application.
