CSUSB Pi Sigma Alpha Chapter Named “National Best Chapter”
Cal State San Bernardino’s Theta Iota Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, has been recognized for a "National Best Chapter Award" for the 2008-2009 academic year.
Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, is the only honor society in the United States for college students studying political science and government. There are approximately 687 chapters of Pi Sigma Alpha located on college and university campuses in every state of the United States and in Guam.
Only 12 chapters receive the best chapter award each year. Four schools are selected from among three divisions, which are based on school enrollment. The CSUSB Theta Iota Chapter was among the four winners for schools with enrollment of 15,000 students and more.
“We were fortunate enough to win this award last year as well, marking the second time in the past nine years that we achieved back-to-back awards in this category,” said Brian Janiskee, CSUSB political science professor and chair of the university’s Political Science Department. “We won national best chapter awards in 2000 and 2001, along with a national best chapter adviser award in 2002. Our faculty and students are proud of our chapter and we would not be able to do this without the dedication and support of university staff and administrators.”
Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is designated as a "Specialized, Upper-Division" society by ACHS. The Theta Iota Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha was founded in 1975.
