NEW DEPARTMENT GUIDELINES FOR INDEPENDENT STUDY

1. Independent studies are for senior political science majors only.

2. A student applying for an independent study must demonstrate capacity for independent research.

3. An application for independent study, with a detailed reading list and plan for research, must be submitted at least three weeks prior to the end of the term preceding the term in which the independent study will be executed.

4. The application will be submitted to a Department Evaluation Committee.

5. The Evaluation Committee will forward its recommendation to the Department Chair.

6. The Department Chair has final authority to approve the independent study.

7. Enrollment codes will not be given without the Chair's signature.

8. No independent study will be granted if it has the explicit purpose of substituting for a required course.
